Who are we

Go-Ahead London is the capital’s largest bus operator and we employ the overwhelming number of our 8,000 people at 17 garages, mostly in South East, South West, North East and East London.  An award-winning company with a well-regarded industry reputation, we have opened three new garages in the last five years and run a quarter of London’s iconic red bus network on behalf of Transport for London (TfL) using 2,450 vehicles.  


The Recruitment Manager is responsible for ensuring that there is continuous recruitment of PCV Drivers and Bus Driver Apprentices to ensure we are able to meet the minimum establishment figures.  It is important for the Recruitment Manager to maintain recruitment standards at all times.


What we are looking for:

We are looking for a team player with a high-volume of recruitment experience and strong organisation skills coupled with good communication skills and accurate attention to detail.


Below are some of the additional tasks but this list is by no means exhaustive:


  • Managing the complete recruitment process: application vetting, preliminary drives, initial assessments, interviews, medicals, licence to DVLA, issuing start dates and obtaining previous employment references.
  • Managing and using the iCIMS system for recruitment of all PCV Drivers and Bus Driver Apprentices ensuring that data is accurate and reporting when required.
  • managing sickness, holidays, and absences of all colleagues within the Recruitment Team who report to you ensuring there is sufficient cover at all times
  • Monitoring and managing the productivity/performance of your team, including their general conduct, and dealing with any disciplinary matters if and when needed.  
  • Ensuring the recruitment KPI targets are met, particularly in relation to new entrants (apprentices and PCV holders) numbers.
  • Building strong relationships with the HR Manager/General Managers and Operating Managers to ensure a cohesive approach to establishment/driver colleague requirements and turnover.
  • Taking responsibility for proactively forecasting future driver colleague requirements based on TfL decisions/contract wins and losses and any schedule changes.
  • Proactively liaising with the UK Visas and Immigration departments particularly where colleagues may be struggling in obtaining the necessary documents.


Knowledge and experience of high-volume recruitment is essential. The successful applicant must be able to communicate effectively and be able to prioritise and manage tasks effectively. We are looking for an individual who can make effective decisions and has excellent computer skills, including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.    


Bus knowledge and experience would be an advantage including experience in recruiting and dealing with apprentices and apprenticeship programmes.
