Responsibilities

What You’ll Be Doing

 

As an Engineering Manager, you will oversee all engineering operations within the garage, ensuring that our buses meet TfL’s operational requirements with maximum reliability and performance. Your role will be a mix of planned maintenance and dynamic problem-solving, requiring you to make critical decisions across a broad range of areas, including:

  • Technical & Engineering Solutions – Diagnosing and resolving complex mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Team Leadership & Staff Development – Managing, motivating, and leading a skilled team of engineers and technicians.
  • Health, Safety & Compliance – Ensuring strict adherence to safety regulations and engineering standards.
  • Stock & Budget Control – Managing resources effectively to optimize performance and cost efficiency.
  • Innovation & Emerging Technologies – Staying ahead of industry advancements, including emission control systems, diesel-electric hybrids, and electric vehicles.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven leadership experience in an engineering management role.
  • Strong technical expertise in bus engineering and maintenance, with a keen interest in emerging vehicle technologies.
  • A solid understanding of health & safety protocols, with a willingness to obtain the NEBOSH General Certificate if not already held.
  • Membership with IRTE (or an equivalent professional qualification).
  • A Transport Manager CPC (or ability to obtain one).
  • The ability to lead, inspire, and drive performance in a fast-paced operational environment.
