Who are we

Go-Ahead London, the capital’s largest bus operator, is seeking a skilled and motivated Workshop Controller to join our Major Unit Centre. You will drive the efficient planning, allocation, and delivery of engineering work across our Major Unit Centre, Accident Repair Centre, and Field Service Team.

Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, you will play a major role in the strategy to reduce VOR times our vehicles face. Working with the managers and supervisors to ensure completion schedules are being met and communicating directly with the depots with the progress of their vehicles.

 

Responsibilities

The Role

Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, you will:

  • Plan and prioritise work to maximise efficiency across all areas of the Major Unit Centre.
  • Allocate jobs effectively, ensuring vehicles, parts, and labour are coordinated.
  • Monitor progress and communicate directly with depots on vehicle status.
  • Work with managers, supervisors, and the Stores team to minimise vehicle off-road (VOR) times.
  • Champion the move towards electronic maintenance systems and ensure accurate use of IT systems.

Qualifications

  • At least two years’ supervisory experience in an engineering environment.
  • NVQ Level 3 qualification or time-served apprenticeship.
  • Current PCV licence.
  • Strong management and communication skills.
  • Good IT literacy and a forward-thinking approach to technology.
  • A thorough knowledge of safe efficient Engineering Procedures.
  • Membership of a relevant professional institute (desirable).
