As part of the continued development of our Asset Presentation function, we are seeking a Mobile Driver Trainer to support the safe, compliant and effective operation of shunting activities across our garages. This is a specialist, part-time role working closely with the Driver Training Academy at Camberwell, providing targeted training, performance oversight and post-incident support.

About the Role

The Mobile Driver Trainer is responsible for ensuring that shunters operate safely, competently and in line with company and legal standards within the garage environment. You will review operational performance, identify training needs and deliver both planned and reactive training interventions.

This role plays a key part in maintaining safety standards, reducing incidents and supporting continuous improvement across Asset Presentation and Driver Academy operations.

Key Responsibilities

Training & Development

  • Deliver initial, refresher and remedial training for shunters and drivers
  • Conduct practical and theoretical assessments to confirm competence
  • Support the onboarding of new shunters and drivers
  • Develop and maintain training materials in line with Driver Academy standards

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Review nightly shunting operations and produce clear performance reports
  • Identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement
  • Recommend targeted training interventions based on performance data

Incident Response & Remedial Training

  • Attend garages following incidents or accidents
  • Conduct investigations and deliver targeted retraining
  • Document findings and provide feedback to support learning and prevention

Compliance & Collaboration

  • Ensure all training aligns with Health & Safety, environmental and operational procedures
  • Promote safe vehicle manoeuvring and adherence to garage protocols
  • Work closely with Site Managers, Allocators, Engineering, Cleaning teams and the Driver Academy

What we are looking for

You’ll be calm, credible and confident operating in a live garage environment, with the ability to coach, assess and influence others. Ideally, you will have:

  • A full UK PCV driving licence (essential)
  • Proven experience as a Shunter or Driver within a transport or logistics environment
  • Experience delivering training and conducting assessments
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety and risk management
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to analyse performance and implement improvement actions
  • A flexible approach to working hours, including evenings or weekends where required

IOSH or similar Health & Safety qualification is desirable, or a willingness to work towards one.

Working Pattern & Location

  • Part-time: 2.5 days per week
  • Based with the Driver Training Team at Camberwell
  • Regular travel to garages across the Go-Ahead London network
  • Flexibility required to support operational needs

What We Offer

  • Salary: £22,500 per annum (part-time)
  • Company pension scheme
  • Free or discounted travel on London Buses and the TfL network
  • Training and development opportunities
  • Opportunities for progression within Go-Ahead London

Why Join Us?

This is a highly visible role that makes a real difference to safety, performance and standards across our garage operations. If you enjoy coaching, problem-solving and improving how things are done on the ground, this role offers the chance to do exactly that.
