Skill Trainer – Asset Presentation (Bus & Premises Cleaning)

 

Location: South London Bus Depot (with travel across Go-Ahead London garages)
Salary: Competitive £40k to £45k – depending on experience
Contract: Permanent

 

Go-Ahead London is the capital’s largest bus operator, employing over 8,000 colleagues and operating a quarter of London’s iconic red bus network on behalf of Transport for London (TfL).

As part of the continued development of our Asset Presentation function, we are seeking a Skill Trainer – Bus & Premises Cleaning to support the delivery of consistently high cleaning standards across our bus and premises operations. This is a key role within a growing operational function, supporting the transition to more in-house services and raising standards across the network.

 

About the Role

 

The Skill Trainer is responsible for delivering high-quality, consistent and standards-driven training to cleaning and shunting operatives across Go-Ahead London. You will ensure colleagues are fully competent, confident and compliant in how they clean, work safely and use equipment and chemicals correctly.

Working closely with operational managers, you will provide hands-on coaching, assess performance on-site, and help embed best practice that supports our Care for our Assets value and our commitment to safety, quality and professionalism.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and deliver induction, refresher and upskilling training for bus and premises cleaning operatives
  • Deliver practical, hands-on coaching covering cleaning techniques, equipment, machinery, chemicals and PPE
  • Ensure all training complies with Go-Ahead London policies, COSHH, Health & Safety legislation and industry best practice
  • Conduct on-site assessments of cleaning performance, identifying capability gaps and supporting development plans
  • Maintain accurate and auditable training records, including certification and compliance tracking
  • Support operational managers with technical advice on cleaning processes, equipment use and safe systems of work
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by recommending new methods, technologies or ways of working
  • Act as an ambassador for safety, professionalism and high standards across all locations
  • Support incident reviews and investigations by providing retraining or targeted interventions where required
  • Contribute to Asset Presentation audits, quality reviews and wider improvement programmes

What We’re Looking For

You’ll be confident, practical and people-focused, with a strong technical understanding of professional cleaning operations. Ideally, you will bring:

  • Experience in professional cleaning operations, ideally within transport, industrial or facilities environments
  • Strong knowledge of cleaning techniques, machinery, chemicals and safe working practices
  • Excellent communication and coaching skills, with the ability to engage colleagues from diverse backgrounds
  • Confidence delivering both classroom-based and on-the-job training
  • Working knowledge of COSHH, Health & Safety legislation and environmental standards
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • A proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement

Qualifications 

  • Training Qualification (ESSENTIAL)
  • Train-the-Trainer qualification (or willingness to work towards one)
  • IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification (or willingness to work towards)
  • Recognised cleaning qualification (e.g. BICS, BCCA or equivalent) Desirable

Working Pattern & Travel

  • Based from a South London bus depot
  • Willingness to travel across Go-Ahead London garages is essential
  • Flexibility in working hours to support operational requirements
