Commercial Scheduler

Summary

As a Scheduler, you will play a key role in planning and optimising bus routes for Go-Ahead London’s commercial department. This involves producing cost-effective schedules, ensuring compliance with operational, financial, and statutory requirements, and contributing to the efficiency of current and prospective operations.

 

Key Responsibilities

Scheduling and Planning:

· Develop cost-effective schedules and rotas for current and potential operations, ensuring they meet company standards.

· Assist in generating resource information for budgeting and cost analysis.

· Regularly review existing schedules, proposing innovative improvements to maximise efficiency.

· Contribute to tender proposals by creating schedules that meet cost and operational requirements.

· Liaise with subcontractors to organise cover of schedules

Collaboration and Reporting:

· Support the Planning Manager by providing or presenting data and insights to the rest of the department.

· Monitor compliance with Go-Ahead London’s contractual obligations, particularly for revised services and schedules.

· Prepare and update accurate database records of current and upcoming operations, ensuring timely data availability for managers.

· Attend planning meetings with stakeholders and support planning of future work.

Operational Efficiency:

· Monitor service performance metrics (e.g., running times, lost mileage) and highlight areas for improvement. Suggest and implement remedial actions where necessary.

· Assist in developing scheduling practices that improve staff productivity and operational cost-effectiveness.

General Duties:

· Undertake reasonable tasks as directed by the Line Manager.

· Engage in training and development activities to enhance skills and support new initiatives.

 

Skills and Experience

Essential:

· Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present scheduling information clearly to a diverse audience.

· Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels.

· Logical and analytical thinking, with a proactive approach to solving unexpected challenges.

· Ability to manage workloads and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable:

· Basic understanding of scheduling and rota compilation (training will be provided if needed).

· Knowledge of the London tendering market and related legislation (e.g., Working Time Directive, European Drivers’ Hours).

· Interest in the bus industry, London transport networks, and local geography.

· Take responsibility for your own safety and the safety of others by adhering to Health and Safety regulations, including the Company’s policies and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

 

Company Responsibilities

· Comply with all company policies and procedures.

· Undertake additional duties and training as requested by the Line Manager.

· Support the implementation of new initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and service quality.

 

Special Working Conditions:

· Work across all London locations, primarily in North, East, and Southeast London.

· May require working outside core office hours.
